Top tips for getting around Tauranga during the Zespri AIMS Games

With more than 14,000 visitors expected for the Zespri AIMS Games, Tauranga will be humming – and a little busier than usual.

Here are five simple ways to make getting around during Zespri AIMS Games easy and stress-free:

  1. Travel between venues on the free loop buses
Getting to games is easy with the free loop busesopen_in_new provided by Bay of Plenty Regional Council and Tauranga City Council.

From Monday 1 to Friday 5 September, the free loop busesopen_in_new will run every 30 minutes between key venues in Mount Maunganui and Pāpāmoa, stopping at: Mount Hot Pools, Mount Mainstreet shops, Blake Park, Baywave, Mercury Baypark and Gordon Spratt Reserve.

Plus, every athlete who rides the bus can earn 25 Give Back Games points for their school – just scan the QR code onboard.

  2. Use the Baybus urban network – free for athletes and coaches
Athletes and coaches can ride the Baybus urban network for free across Tauranga during the Zespri AIMS Games. Getting to your venues couldn’t be easier – just check out the Baybus urban mapopen_in_new to see which routes will take you where you need to go.

  3. Allow extra time for travel
With thousands of extra people on the move, roads and carparks will be busier than usual. Plan ahead, leave a little earlier and give yourself time to find your way. To skip parking hassles, park for free at Mercury Baypark or Gordon Spratt Reserve and hop on the free loop bus to your game.

  4. Catch a ride to the opening ceremony
Skip the traffic and register for a free Park and Ride bus. Simply park at Blake Park or Gordon Spratt Reserve, then jump on the bus and enjoy the ride with your team, whānau or friends. You’ll be dropped right at the doors of Mercury Arena – no parking stress, just an easy trip to the big event.
