Rotorua bike racks are back

Bike racks have now been reinstated on Cityride buses in Rotorua.
They were temporarily removed in late 2024 while a national safety issue was reviewed. We’ve since upgraded the lighting on Rotorua buses to meet safety requirements set by NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi. With those changes complete, the racks are back and ready to use.
How it works
- No booking is required
- Most standard bikes can be carried
- Racks are first-come, first-served
- Just signal the driver, lift your bike onto the front rack, and hop on board
Rotorua only (for now)
These changes apply to Rotorua Cityride services only.
Bike racks remain unavailable in Tauranga and Whakatāne for now, but will return to service in August 2025.
Thanks for your patience while we worked through this national safety process, we know bike racks are an important part of making public transport work for you.
